Darjeeling - welcome to the clouds

Darjeeling - Bienvenida a las nubes

rain 22 °C

We headed to north India to see the mountains of Himalaya but we forgot to check when the monsoon will hit the area...
So we were living in the clouds for four days. Some times it was like the windows were painted with white color.
Still we were able to see quite a lot of things and even do hiking into Nepal for a day.

-----------------

New Delhi - A big construction area

Nueva Delhi - Un área de construcción grande

sunny 30 °C

Henrik´s brother arrived and it was time give him a good Indian experience, so we took a weekend in New Delhi and this time we actually went to all tourist places.
It really feels like they decided that central Delhi needed to be improved and they stared to do new construction everywhere! So it felt like we came to a big construction area. One really good that is coming to Delhi is the Metro. It really feels like a different world, still clean and very organized inside the Metro.
New Delhi still has a lot of good thing to offer, old forts, the model for Taj Mahal and the houses of Mahatma Gandhi and Indira Gandhi. A great weekend with a tight time schedule.

--------

Welcome to holiest and dirties city of India = Varanasi

sunny 40 °C

After running through the airport of Brussels I was able to get on the flight to Chennai and join Morin for our next trip. The flight arrived late so we only got 3 hours sleep before it was time to head to the airport again and get on the plane to Varanasi via Delhi.
In Varanasi the Ghats and the Ganges feel like the cleanest places in town, even if Ghats are used as toilets of many and Ganges is used for everything. However, it was still very nice taking a walk along the river to get the holy feeling of the town.

Lonely but not alone

sunny 30 °C

@->->--

I have been alone in Chennai this week since Henrik had to go to work in Stockholm. So I went out to party with local friends and went to the beach with a Guatemalan colleague during the weekend. On Tuesday, I had a stomach situation, locally called Delhi belly - since everybody gets ill there. Now I am well and waiting for Henrik to return. Especially happy for the 1-0 between Chile and Honduras :-)

It was time to enjoy a big city. Spent a whole day in the "1 km mall" and felt like we were in a different country, enjoying the shopping and movie.
Had to made it to some tourist attractions, so we went some in the outskirts of New Delhi, still very impressive.

La ciudad rosada

The pink city

sunny 45 °C

The end of India

overcast 35 °C

@->->---

This weekend we did a short tour to the end of India, which is the southern tip, Kanyakumari, where the three seas meet:

  • Arabian Sea
  • Indian Ocean
  • Bay of Bengal

See where on the map

It was an extremely hot and humid ride. We also had the opportunity to visit the largest wooden palace in Asia - not that big and half of the palace was made out of brick with concrete...

After trying to explore the train way system we decided to take the car to Mysore instead. After a very long drive and getting lost more than three times, we reached the city and had a great day exploring the city. Just the freedom be able to walk around is great some times!
We also got to experience some time with the monkey man up on the hill...
