We came back to Stockholm on Saturday October 30, only with the hand luggage. The rest of the luggage came after 10 hours.

Donde las tortugas nacen

Where the turtles are born

sunny 30 °C

  • The old capital inside the island, in the humid highland - Kandy.
  • The Southeastern port of the old Tharsis, where the Hebrew king Salomón sent to look for ivory and peacocks according to the Bible - Galle.

The nature and the landscapes of Sri Lanka enchanted us, but we forgot to send postal cards...

The tiger hunt

La caza de Tigre

sunny 30 °C

In Ranthambore National Park, close to Jaipur, we went for our tiger hunt. And we saw a lot of tigers. However, all except one ended up being strange twisted branches, trees and rocks.
The real tiger we could first follow using the tracks on the road. In the middle of our tracking, our jeep got a flat tire. Everyone had to leave the jeep so the tire could be changed but still stay close enough so we could jump back in since we didn’t know where the tiger was. Scary and exciting at the same time! Once back in the jeep, we were able to track down the tiger, calmly walking in the forest. It was on the move the whole time so we never got a good chance to take a picture, or maybe we were too excited. Once hidden among the trees the tiger even started to roar. Yes, we got a second adrenalin kick!
We tried our luck four times taking safaris in the park and got to see a lot of other animals and great nature as well as the excitement of not knowing what you will see next.
Great adventure and one of the best experiences in India during this year.

---------------------------------

overcast 28 °C

Our last month just started here in Chennai and we are starting to feel ready to go back home. We just have 10-20 forms to fill out to allow us to leave the country. Hopefully we will have enough time before the plane is leaving.
We also have two more exiting trips to do before we leave, of course! ;)

----------------------

Donde India duerme

Where India sleeps

all seasons in one day 25 °C

@->->---

Vasco da Gama’s India is asleep before the high season of tourism starts. Goa is India’s smallest state, in area. Anjuna - the capital of the hippies in the sixties and seventies, Old Goa - the city of churches, and Panaji - the capital of Goa, were our destinations. Goa has currently problems with the garbage management and obedience of rules and laws - the last problem is mainly a product of tourism. In short, we managed to go to the beach, eat at the only open restaurant near the beach (where some hippies were smoking something more than tobacco), walk quickly in Old Goa and Panaji, change room (the first one had so much mold that Morin got a cold), watch TV, wait for the rain to end, play pool, escape from ferocious dogs, take car rides, enjoy the bar and pool. We failed to find the parties with Trance music and the colonies of tourists, but we did find a dormant state while monsoon rains end.

Cerca del paraíso

Close to paradise

all seasons in one day 30 °C

Port Blair is the main community of the islands and the administrative capital of the territory, where the airport is located. From there we took a boat to Havelock Island, as closest to paradise as one can get in India. We stayed in bamboo bungalows, 30 meters from the beach. During our stay - we swim, we dive and snorkeled, we ate delicious fish, we got wet in the rain, we got bitten by mosquitoes, we fought, laughed, read, played cards, collected shells, slept, woke up early and enjoyed. Something to never to forget. Oh, and the word of the trip was "Fuck you" *hahaha*.

Ciudad de perlas

City of Pearls

semi-overcast 20 °C

@->->--

We have arrived to the point where there is not many close cities to visit during the weekends without having to take a couple of days off from work for the transportation. For that reason we arrived at Hyderabad, a city known for its commerce of pearl and shining bangles as well as IT companies. During the drizzling Saturday, we visited the tower of Charminar, the junk bazaar, the beautiful Chowmahall palace and the historical Golconda fort. During the hot Sunday, we went to the small Lumbini Park, where we took a ferry towards the Buddha statue that is placed on a tiny artificial island in the lake Hussain Sagar. It was a minor journey that accentuated our desire of returning home. We do have two months left and some exciting trips accompanied by family :-)

Kolkata - The whole india on one street

overcast 28 °C

Calcutta, or now Kolkata, will always be special after Dr. Bombay...
This is really a city with many faces, and just by walking a long one street you can find everything people sleeping, eating, cooking, begging, getting a hair cut and taking a bath or a leak. If you want to see typical India street things, spend 10 minutes on the streets of Kalkata and you have got a great summary of what it is all about.
Even if there is quite some chaos and a lot of poor people as well as dirty, the city still has some very nice areas to visit. Sometimes it feels like they decided to maintain some buildings at least and then be able to take a ride in the tram is a very nice way to see and transport oneself in the city.
And yes, I guess Dr Bombay was right, the city is full of taxi, taxi, taxi....

Las niñas de otra ciudad

Girls from out of town

semi-overcast 24 °C

@->->---

A Brazilian, Italian, German and Swedish/Finish friend visited us in Chennai during their 2+ week long holiday in India. They relaxed in Chennai, used our washing machine until it almost died, went shopping, sightseeing, dining and finally also dancing after a successful pre party at our home. The Indian nightlife is something exclusive, most of my Indian work colleagues have never been out clubbing before – I have now showed them the dark side  The girls left Chennai for a spa/beach resort in Kerela – after a few days I met them in Kochi and we went to my favorite place in India – the tea hills and spice gardens of Munnar in search for tea and elephants. We found lots of tea but only foot prints of elephants…Nevertheless, I am happy for the visit and joint adventure!
